Plunket is New Zealand's largest provider of support services for the development, health and wellbeing of children under the age of five. It has been caring for young families for over a hundred years. Today, over 91 percent of babies born in New Zealand are Plunket babies.

They are a not-for-profit organisation with clinical staff and a volunteer network providing services to help families in communities throughout New Zealand. It is a national organisation that is locally responsive. Plunket's strength in the community means that they can work in partnership with others to achieve shared goals around child health, strengthening families, and community engagement.

Plunket provides a range of services, such as a parents helpline, car seat rentals, childrens regular health assessments, parent education, and toy libraries. From pregnancy until a child is ready for school, families are entitled to Plunket care and support, with most of these services being free.

Many of the people we know have less. Less money. Less self-esteem. Less stability. Less good-health. At the Wellington City Mission, they believe people deserve more than that. Wellington City Mission want to help turn their lives around.

Young, middle-aged and old, be they sick, disabled, lonely, in trouble, financially or spiritually deprived, have received much needed help from the Mission's professional staff.

The Mission are always there to assist in times of ill-health or crisis. But their programmes are also about helping people to help themselves, people who want to move on from dependency to independent living. We assist them to confront their personal issues, make a positive change in their lives, and move on to a better quality of life.

Governments are not equipped, and no longer have the resources to deal with the grass roots issues. It is up to agencies like the Wellington City Mission to be ready to lend a hand, with professionally designed and delivered services, that can result in positive change in the lives of those who need support.
